Shopping in Scottsdale

If you’re a serious shopper with serious money don’t miss the upscale centers for which this part of the Valley is famous.

Even if you don’t have sacks of money, it’s fun to walk around these always well-landscaped and fashionable shopping centers, bustling with beautiful people and stocked with luxury items from all over the globe, to get an idea of how the other one percent lives.

Scottsdale’s busy downtown areas provide the best shopping in town, and nearby Scottsdale Fashion Square (7014 E. Camelback Rd., 480/945-5495) is the largest enclosed mall in the Southwest, featuring high-end department stores, boutiques, and restaurants.

The Borgata (Scottsda le Rd. and Lincoln, 602/953-6311, www.borgata.com, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Mon.–Sat., noon–6 p.m. Sun.) is an upscale shopping center with dozens of shops and boutiques featuring high-end shoes, clothing, and accessories; there are several galleries and home-decor shops with handcrafted artisan furniture and many one-of-a-kind finds.

Kierland Commons (Scottsdale Rd. and Greenway Pkwy., 480/348-1577, www.kierlandcommons. com, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.– Sat., noon–6 p.m. Sun.) has about 70 upmarket shops and eateries, including Anthropologie, Restoration Hardware, and Crate & Barrel.

The Shops at Gainey Village (Scottsdale Rd. and Doubletree, 480/609-6909, www .theshopsgaineyvillage.com, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat., noon–6 p.m. Sun.) is perhaps the most stylish of them all, featuring unique boutiques (including a shop for the ultra-pampered dog in your family), interior design shops, furniture stores with custom-made items you won’t find anywhere else but you’ll have to pay dearly for, contemporary art galleries, and even, because this is Scottsdale, a shop selling “baby couture.”
